The Recycling Center Concept
A recycling center is a landfill in combination with several recycling installations, each tuned to recover a specific fraction of the incoming waste. Various separate installations can be applied, depending on specific needs and circumstances. In developing a recycling center, a modular approach is obvious: with reference to local circumstances the recycling center may start with a single installation, after which the concept may be developed in full over a period of years.
WWR strongly advocates a decentralized set-up, with recycling centers located close to waste producing sources. In this set-up transportation of waste is being minimized. The Recycling Center Concept warrants a working method that keeps the inconvenience of smell, visual distraction and attracted animals to a minimum. For the implementation of new projects, high standards will be applied. A new recycling center can easily be built near an existing landfill, extending its lifetime and improving the environmental and social situation.
Waste treatment in itself is not market driven. A recycling center can only be successful when private enterprise and government (municipalities) join forces.
